Why Desert Plant are Crucial to Desert Life
How do these desert plants survive the strange climate and weather of deserts? Many times these poor desert plants go without water for extended periods of time. Desert plants must be accustomed to the dry climate of deserts.
Therefore if you were to visit a desert you probably wouldn't find a lot of those colorful, fragile looking flowers and plants that you see in the gardens of your own home. Desert plants have to be deeply embedded into the ground in order to survive. Most of the time these desert plants look pretty rugged instead of being aesthetically appealing.
If you take the desert cactus for example, it has a very thick center body and is embedded deeply into the desert ground. Another reason why these desert plants become so rugged is because in the winter there is a possibility of the coming of a bitter cold draft. These desert plants must be durable enough to be able to survive the harsh cold that may come in the wintertime.
A desert cactus definitely has the ability to survive the extreme heat in the summer and also the biting cold in the winter. Desert plants are definitely a necessity as it is necessary to have plants in every landmark throughout the world. The deserts have much difficulty with maintaining plant life because there are not even that many plants that can survive the desert climate.
The desert cactus is just one of the few plants that can survive the desert climate. However even all of the other desert plants are fairly unattractive. One of the most important desert plants would be the Velvet Mesquite. Because there is such a vastness of desert plants in the desert, animals have difficulty surviving as well.
Different types of desert plants would provide them shade but because not that many are able to be found these poor animals rarely have shelter from the heat. The only animals that would be able to shelter themselves from the heat would be the ones that can crawl into the ground. The desert cactus doesn't even have branches, leaves, or bushes to offer any help to the animals.
The Velvet Mesquite is also very helpful to humans that live in the desert. There are many animals that feed off of the beans that these desert plants have to offer and find rest under the shade that its' branches provide. A Crimson Hedgehog Cactus is actually a desert cactus that is smaller and a bit more on the cute side. This specific desert cactus is the size of a small barrel and sometimes grows flowers as well. The reason why this desert cactus has the name hedgehog as part of it's' name is because the stems sticking out of it used to make it look similar to a hedgehog.
Whether these desert plants are a desert cactus or not they are all very necessary for the wildlife within the Sonoma Desert to carry on.
