How the Desert Biome for Sonoran Differs From Others
The desert biome of the Sonoran Desert is different compared to many of the other typical desert lands. One of the desert facts is that this desert biome is one of the most diverse environments making it one of the most unique historical places in the world. The Sonoran Desert also covers a vast amount of land by originating around the Southern East California area all the way down to Sonora, Mexico. In between it also covers the Southern part of Arizona and majority of Baja California as well.
The desert biome of typical deserts consists of not enough plant life. The reason for not enough plant life is due to the lack of precipitation. Most desert biomes including that of the Sonoran Desert is comprised of sand, gravel, and rocks.
About one fifth of all the land in the world is made up of desert biomes. Most of these desert biomes exist near the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer. The desert biome of the Sonoran Desert actually considers it to be fertile compared to other deserts around the world. The reason why the Sonoran Desert is considered so is because of its location.
There are parts of the Sonoran Desert that are located near the islands along the Gulf of California. This desert biome actually contains over two thousand different types of plants. This is a considerably large amount in comparison to other severely dry deserts. As with the desert biomes of many other deserts, the amount of fertility heavily depends on the amount of rainfall which is received in the Sonoran Desert throughout the year.
The Sonoran Desert does go through rainy seasons from time to time. The desert biome has the rain typically coming from the timeframe of December into March and then once more from July to the middle of September. According to the desert biome, even throughout these rainy days the Sonoran Desert tends to remain sunny.
The amount of precipitation that is retained from these rainfalls is what determines how the desert life is going to be for the rest of the year. It may be hard to believe but even the Sonoran Desert has very vicious thunder storms. The desert biome of this desert has many tropical characteristics in some parts of the desert as well.
The one difference about the desert biome of the Sonoran Desert as opposed to other large deserts in North America is that the winters are not harsh at all. Majority of the entire desert biome receives no frostbite from the cold weather. Even during the winter there are light rains in the Sonoran Desert.
This is also another reason why there are so many tourists that flock to this desert biome all throughout the year. In the summer they go just to look at the basic characteristics of the desert. And in the winter they are still able to visit the Sonoran Desert because it is wonderful weather instead of the harsh winter in other parts of North America.
